North Las Vegas Police say they have arrested all but one suspect in the gang-motivated, mistaken shooting death of an 11-year-old girl earlier this month.
Police announced today the arrests of two more people accused of driving through the 6700 block of Courtney Michelle Street on the night of Nov. 1 in search of a rival gang member’s home.
In the neighborhood for a retribution shooting, three males aged 16 to 20, hopped out of the car, approached the house they believed belonged to the rival gang member and opened fired, Assistant Police Chief Pamela Ojeda said at a news conference today. Angie Ervies, 11, was gunned down while standing in the kitchen, police said.
Jarquan Tiffith, 20, and a 16-year-old boy arrested Wednesday each face four counts of attempted murder and one count each of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, police said. They were located in Las Vegas, Ojeda said.
Erin Hines, 17, accused of driving the car, was arrested shortly after the shooting, and a passenger, Guy Banks III, 19, was shot and killed by a neighbor acting in self defense, police said.
A fifth suspect believed to have accompanied Tiffith and the 16-year-old in the shooting is still at large, police said. Ojeda declined to release that person’s name.
Ojeda said the rival gang member police believe was targeted lives on the same block as the house where the shooting occurred.
