A man accused of sexually assaulting and fatally beating a woman in a vacant apartment Saturday told detectives he “blacked out” and didn’t remember what happened, according to a Metro Police arrest report.

Responding to a call from a nearby resident who reported a naked man with blood on him was knocking on their door, officers arrived about 3:30 p.m. to the 2900 block of Juniper Hills Boulevard, police said.

The caller had recognized the man, later identified as Charles Talley, 50, as a former resident of a nearby apartment who had recently been evicted, police said.

Police entered Talley’s apartment and discovered a badly beaten woman covered in blood and gasping for air on the floor, the report said. Kelly Kazoon died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center from multiple injuries, including facial fractures, officials said.

Kazoon was a homeless woman who had known Talley for several years, police said.

In an interview with detectives, Talley said he didn’t know how Kazoon was injured, the report said.

Talley said he brought Kazoon, whom he’d recently started an intimate relationship with, to the apartment, the report said.

Initially, she rejected his advances, but they eventually engaged in consensual sex, he said. Sometime during that, he “blacked out and could not remember any further details,” police aid.

Talley is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center on one count each of sexual assault and murder, jail logs show.
