Darnell Washington scored on a touchdown reception and interception return tonight for the Desert Pines football team in a 60-13 win against visiting Mojave in a rematch of last’s season 3A state championship game.

Desert Pines also won the state game, and then both schools were elevated to the class 4A.

Desert Pines coach Tico Rodriguez credited the contributions “from a lot of different guys” and raved that we “shared the ball a bit.”

Jamel Brown had a long touchdown run for the Jaguars, Kendall Washington returned an interception 80 yards for a score, and Devin McGee had a pair of touchdown runs.

This was Desert Pines’ return to action after forfeiting last week as penalty for a benches-clearing fight last month against Liberty.

“The kids wanted to get back to focusing on football and put the craziness behind us,” Rodriguez said.
