The Coronado High football team had two weeks to prepare for its Southeast League opener against rival Green Valley.

So, many of the Cougars’ coaches took in the Green Valley game last Friday with hopes of finding a tactical advantage.

“We had a really good idea of what they were going to do,” Coronado Terry Riddle said.

Coronado scored the game’s initial 10 points in the 28-21 upset victory — a win the first-year coach Riddle says is one of his school’s most significant in the last five years.

“The confidence is through the roof,” he said.

Semaj Bolin and Trey Goughnour had touchdowns for the Cougars, Riddle said.

The win carried some extra significance for Riddle — he’s a 1997 Green Valley graduate.

“It was pretty cool getting to win against my alma mater,” he said.
