An argument at Western High School this morning escalated into a brawl that led to dozens of students being pepper-sprayed, according to authorities.
Between 45 and 50 students, some whom were described as onlookers, were sprayed and treated at the central valley school, 4601 W. Bonanza Road, Clark County School District Police Capt. Roberto Morales said.
An argument between two groups of teens broke out about the time the school’s second lunch period began at 11:45 a.m., Morales said. About a dozen students then started fighting, he said.
Between 100 and 200 onlookers gathered around, creating an “unsafe” situation and prompting School District Police officers to discharge pepper spray, Morales said.
By the time it was all over, 22 officers responded, along with 15 to 20 medics who decontaminated the students hit with the pepper spray, Morales said.
