Silverado dropped its initial three Southwest League games to make the remaining three division contests feel like playoff games.

If the Skyhawks can close their schedule with three wins, they could sneak into the postseason. They won the first of those three games tonight in a 42-7 victory against visiting Spring Valley.

Jacob Mendez rushed for 140 yards and four touchdowns.

“We jumped on them in the first quarter,” Silverado coach Andy Ostolaza said. “We moved the ball well. We kept it on the ground and they had a hard time stopping it.”

Breven Palpallatoc added 80 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Skyhawks, who play Clark next week.

“We are fighting for our playoff lives,” the coach said.
