The Boulder City High football team entered the season not having won a 3A Sunrise League game in four seasons. They hadn’t been to the playoffs in five.

Thorsten Balmer has had other ideas this season.

The senior carried the ball 26 times for 203 yards and five touchdowns Friday night in the Eagles’ 48-12 victory against host Sunrise Mountain, giving Boulder City a 6-3 record and No. 2 playoff seed. The Eagles have a home playoff game next week.

“Every year, the kids’ goal was to get better, and they have done that,” Boulder City coach Chris Morelli said.

Jimmy Dunagan and Travis Hungerford also had touchdown runs in following Balmer’s lead.

“Balmer just came to run. He was an absolute workhorse,” the coach said.
