The Cheyenne Desert Shields dismantled Rancho 48-0 Friday night to remain undefeated.

Cheyenne jumped out to a 38-0 lead in the first half, prompting a running clock due to the mercy rule, and coasted to an easy win in the second half.

“This was the first time our kids gelled,” Cheyenne coach Patrick Ward said. “We executed well and our offensive line blocked real well tonight. It was just one of those things where the first half we were on point.”

Cheyenne running back Javier Cone finished with 94 yards rushing on only three carries, and Majae Madison added 93 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Quarterback Josh Rose threw another touchdown, bringing his season total to seven with no interceptions.

On defense, Cheyenne stifled the Rams’ running attack to earn its first shutout since Sept. 28 of last year.

“Defensive coordinator Patrick Bishop put together a great scheme to stop the double-wing offense they run,” Ward said.

The Desert Shields are now an impressive 3-0 and have outscored their opponents a combined 107-26. They host Clark next Friday before taking on 3A power Moapa Valley the following week.
