The Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday will consider issuing bonds to help build a $56.2 million municipal courthouse downtown.
The four-story, 139,431-square-foot courthouse would be located on about an acre of land off Clark Avenue, diagonal to City Hall.
Parking requirements for the courthouse would be met with 30 spaces on-site and off-site parking, including the city garage at 500 S. Main Street.
The building is slated to break ground in August and be open by January 2021.
The city plans to sell up to $40 million in bonds and cover the remaining $16.2 million of construction costs with cash. The county plans to buy out the city’s leasehold interest at the nearby Regional Justice Center for $23.2 million, which would be used for the cash payment.
The city would repay the bonds over time with revenue from the municipal court and other sources.
