Police: Motorcyclist killed trying to pass SUV on wrong side of road

A motorcyclist was killed today when he tried to pass an SUV by swinging into the opposing lane and crashed into the vehicle as it turned left, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. today at Patrick Lane and Torrey Pines Drive, police said.

The motorcyclist was headed east on Patrick when he tried to pass a Range Rover by crossing into the westbound lane as the SUV turned left onto Torrey Pines, police said. The motorcycle collided with the SUV, ejecting the rider, police said.

The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old Las Vegas man, was taken to University Medical Center for emergency treatment but died of his injuries, police said. His name was not released pending notification of his family.

The driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old Las Vegas woman, suffered minor injuries, police said.
