A former Clark County School District teacher was arrested Sunday on sexual misconduct charges for actions with an underage student, police said Monday.

John Robert Morris, 56, taught at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts from 1994 to 2018 as part of a 28-year career with the school district starting in 1990. He retired from the district in May.

School district police launched an investigation into the alleged misconduct in January after police say the former LVA student, who has since moved on to college, reported the incident to a university counselor. Morris was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of sexual misconduct with a student. He posted bail over the weekend, said Roberto Morales, the district's police chief.

Scott Walker, principal of Las Vegas Academy, said in an email to parents that Morris has not been on campus since January. He also invited parents to contact the school if there are concerns regarding their children.
