A stretch of southbound Interstate 15 will close to traffic overnight Wednesday.

The closure will occur between 11 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday on I-15 between Sahara Avenue and Spring Mountain Road, the Nevada Department of Transportation announced Monday. The closure is needed to install active traffic management signs as part of the almost $1 billion Project Neon.

The Sahara Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-15 will also shutter to traffic between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The signs allow for messaging to provide real-time information to motorists on detours, crashes and traffic restrictions. The signs will display the status of each lane, allowing motorists to avoid the affected lanes before arriving at the area.

Upon the completion of Project Neon, the signs will stretch from the Spaghetti Bowl to Silverado Ranch Boulevard.

Project Neon is 81 percent complete and slated for completion in summer 2019.
