Desert Pines senior running back Cameron Wiley ran for three touchdowns in the second quarter Friday night to help lead the Jaguars to a 40-14 win over Sierra Vista.

Wiley finished the game with 140 rushing yards and three touchdowns as the Jaguars remained undefeated.

“They played us really tough for the first quarter, and we were able to pull away in the second quarter,” Desert Pines coach Tico Rodriguez said.

Quarterback Tyler Williamson threw for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help keep the Jaguars’ offense balanced. After a slow start to the season, Rodriguez feels his team is finally starting to settle into their new 4A classification.

“We’re not quite there yet,” Rodriguez said. “This is a very young team but very talented. We have a lot to prove. In some aspects we’re ultra-talented, but we have to be more consistent.”

The Jaguars have their biggest test yet next Friday when they face the Liberty Patriots.

“We have to play smart and control the ball as much as we can,” Rodriguez said. “They are a phenomenal program and are really well coached. It will be a great test for our team.”
