The Durango High football team lost a pair of games by a combined seven points in the initial two weeks of the season. In the third week, it lost by 13 points.

That’s what happens when your head coach, who is also your offensive coordinator, has to step away for a family emergency a few days before the season starts.

But Durango has quickly figured it out in winning its last three games, including a 47-0 victory tonight against Spring Valley. Durango hasn’t surrendered a point in the past two weeks in opening Southwest League play 2-0.

“We are starting to come together as a team. Everything is clicking,” said Toby Henry, who was elevated to head coach.

Kaden Renshaw accounted for three touchdowns in the win, including a 25-yard touchdown to Jayden Nersinger. T.K. Fotu added a touchdown run, Michael Hayword had a fumble return for a score, and Demazje Townsend had an interception return for a touchdown.
