It’s easy to think about the next week of high school football games.

That’s when the Arbor View and Faith Lutheran football teams will face off in one of the most anticipated games of the season. It will likely decide the Northwest League champion and, arguably, will give the winner an inside track to the state championship game.

First, both teams have to get through tonight.

Faith Lutheran hosts Centennial — a program with some of the area’s best younger players — and Arbor View plays Cimarron-Memorial to highlight the seventh week of prep games in Las Vegas.

Faith Lutheran has just a 2-4 record but won convincingly last week in its return to local play. The Crusaders posted a 1-3 record against out-of-state opponents in nonleague games, and while the results weren’t what they expected, the games prepared them for Las Vegas competition. More important, it got them ready for Arbor View.

Arbor View, of course, is the unquestioned best team in the Northwest and one of the state’s current powers. It should have no problems with Cimarron tonight in continuing its league dominance.

In other games tonight, Bishop Gorman opens Southwest League play against Silverado, Cheyenne travels to Pahrump Valley and Las Vegas plays Legacy. Also, Green Valley hosts Chaparral for its homecoming and will debut a new electronic scoreboard. It’s believed to be one of the largest in the nation. Check back later for scores and photos.
