A blaze in a Henderson apartment killed a man and a woman early Saturday, according to fire officials.

A third person suffered smoke inhalation, and three dogs also were killed, the Henderson Fire Department said this afternoon.

The fire was reported about 1:20 a.m. at the Bristol at Sunset apartment complex at 2001 Ramrod Ave., near East Sunset Road and Mountain Vista Street, officials said.

Arriving crews encountered heavy smoke and flames billowing from the two-story building and requested additional resources, which prevented the fire from spreading to other units, officials said.

The fatal victims died at Henderson Hospital, and the man who experienced smoke inhalation was taken to University Medical Center, officials said. The complex was evacuated and no other person was injured.

Monetary damage was estimated to be $180,000, officials said. Henderson Police and NV Energy also responded to the scene.

The investigation was ongoing.
