Helicopter makes precautionary landing in Vegas flood basin

Wed, Feb 20, 2019 (11:39 a.m.)

Authorities say a helicopter headed to North Las Vegas Airport made an emergency landing in a flood retention basin after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit.

The Federal Aviation Administration and a Las Vegas fire spokesman say there was no crash, no fire and no one was injured in the 8:30 a.m. Wednesday landing a little west of the U.S. 95 freeway, about 4 miles northwest of the airport.

The FAA said the aircraft was a Robinson R22 that's registered to an owner based at the airport.

Officials say the pilot checked the aircraft and resumed the short flight to the airport with no other trouble.
