The Las Vegas area is expected to get snow for the second time in a week.

A winter storm is expected to drop up to 3 inches of snow on Las Vegas' southern and western outskirts starting tonight while other parts of the metro area will get rain mixed with snow.

The National Weather Service says the "potent and cold" low pressure system was expected to begin affecting metro Las Vegas tonight and continue into Friday morning.

Forecasters said accumulating snow could make driving hazardous by covering roadways and limiting visibility, including along Interstate 15 between Mesquite on the California-Nevada border and Primm on the Utah-Nevada border, a 123-mile stretch that includes Las Vegas.

On Sunday, snow was reported at McCarran International Airport and in downtown Las Vegas for the first time in a decade.
