A 2-year-old boy was found stabbed to death this morning in a bedroom with his mother, who was suffering from apparently self-inflicted stab wounds, Metro Police said.
Metro Lt. Ray Spencer said police suspect the mother stabbed the child, but he stressed that the investigation was in its preliminary stages.
Officers were dispatched about 7:50 a.m. to a home in the 8600 block of Manalang Road to conduct a welfare check, police said.
A cousin of the mother had become concerned because the woman was in the bedroom and hadn’t come out, Spencer said. Before officers arrived, the boy’s father forced his way into the room, where the child was found on a bed, Spencer said.
The mother was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with serous injuries, Spencer said.
