LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Be open to everyone’s ideas

Tue, Feb 26, 2019 (2 a.m.)

I agree with and respectfully disagree with Brian Greenspun’s Feb. 17 column “Here’s the Deal: We need to listen to the young.”

The headline should have ended after the word “listen.” Yes, the young have the energy, ideas and time that can address the challenges of a changing society, but to say they are the only source of fresh ideas is too limiting. Many others, like myself — an octogenarian — have plenty of ideas.

Unfortunately, no one wants to listen to anyone over the age of 50 unless that person is in a position of authority.

No age group has a monopoly on ideas; what we must acknowledge and overcome is the aversion to an open mind and change. It is imperative to use the intellectual resources of this great nation regardless of source and/or age.
