Letter to the editor:

Crisis is of Trump’s doing

Tue, Jan 15, 2019 (2 a.m.)

At a White House meeting with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democrats leader Nancy Pelosi before Christmas, President Donald Trump declared that he would proudly take the blame for an impending government shutdown.

The Republican-led Senate unanimously passed a measure meant to avert the shutdown based on their understanding that it had Trump’s support.

Then Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter and the rest of the rabid talk radio set called Trump a chicken for not demanding funds for a wall. Trump then decided that the shutdown would commence.

Three weeks ago, there was no declared emergency or crisis on the southern border. There was a petulant president having tantrums for not getting his way.

The only crisis on the border is the one his corrupt administration initiated in 2017 to take children away from their asylum-seeking parents. That is the crisis that continues to this day.

Trump is playing this whole string out because he knows the reckoning is imminent. High crimes and misdemeanors and bad dreams translated from Russian are just over the horizon, waiting to be revealed.

So the president lies and creates crises. He sends out Vice President Mike Pence, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the rest of his minions to tell us how important it is to get that wall built. In the meantime, I will be waiting patiently for the justice that is surely coming Trump’s way.

I remain a concerned citizen.
