A teen boy was expected to survive after he was shot this afternoon near an east valley library, according to Metro Police.

Late this afternoon, police continued to search for a suspected teenage gunman, Officer Larry Hadfield said. Further details on a possible motive were not immediately available.

The boy was shot about 1:50 p.m. near Sunrise Library, in the area of Apache Lane and Harris Avenue, Hadfield said. He was taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, Hadfield said.

A school was locked down as the investigation continued, Hadfield said. Eldorado High and Stanford Elementary schools are in the area.
