Man booked on DUI counts in Las Vegas after driving luxury car into parked vehicle

A man sitting in a parked car in a southeast Las Vegas valley lot was killed when the driver of a high-end sports car lost control, veered off the road and hit him, according to Metro Police.

The passenger of the lime green 2018 McLaren 570S was critically injured while its driver, Stanley Butler, 29, was jailed.

Butler, a Washington, D.C., resident, was booked on two counts each of DUI and reckless driving, Clark County Detention Center logs show.

The impact was violent enough that the victim’s Toyota Camry rested upside down on a gravel lot, according in a video posted Metro posted to social media. Several yards apart, the back of the sport’s car appeared demolished.

In the short clip, Lt. Gregory Munson lamented the tragedy, noting it could have been avoided. “It’s too late for a sorry when this happens, we have to stop driving impaired,” he said.

The wreck was reported at 4:12 a.m. on Pecos Road and East Villa Way, just south of Tropicana Avenue.

Medics could do nothing to save the 39-year-old Las Vegas victim, who died at the scene, police said. The McLaren’s passenger a 29-year-old man from Temple Hill, Md., was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Butler was seriously injured, police said.

Police said the McLaren was buzzing south on Pecos when Butler “failed to maintain the lane and lost control.” The car then veered to the right, entered the lot at 3375 Tropicana, and struck the Camry's left side, police said. The victim was sitting in the front passenger seat.
