How many times have we heard or seen those words flash across our television screen? Seemingly more often than not, they are followed by “Gunman with automatic weapon …”
The latest massacre resulted in 12 deaths in Virginia Beach, Va. As usual, there was the outpouring of sympathy and public officials doing their best. There were images of crying, frantic survivors dominating the news on every channel.
After a few days, the news coverage returned to “normal,” until the next time. And there will be a next time. Why? Because the powers that be in Washington, D.C. — Democrats and Republicans — are spineless cowards who need to show some backbone and rein in the National Rifle Association.
So until then, condolences will flow with sympathetic tears, memorials will be erected, family and friends try to make sense of it all while trying to go on with their shattered lives. Until next time.
