A judge says a 47-year-old former Nevada assemblyman can be freed on house arrest pending trial on charges he threatened Las Vegas police officers, as long as he makes weekly appointments at a mental health treatment center.

Steven Brooks appeared in court Tuesday after remaining jailed on $8,000 bond since his April 28 arrest on assault and intimidation of a public officer charges.

His public defender, Fikisha Miller, said outside court that Brooks looks forward to trial next month.

Brooks is accused of threatening physical harm and the jobs of police officers called to a report he'd been in a scuffle at a convenience store.

Brooks was expelled from the Nevada Legislature in March 2013 after several arrests, threats against another lawmaker and his hospitalization for a mental health evaluation.
