The Boulder City Council will soon have a different look and feel after voters on Tuesday in the municipal general election tabbed a new mayor and two new city council members.
Kiernan McManus, a current councilman, received 2,527 votes to beat Mayor Rod Woodbury, who received 2,131 votes. Woodbury had been on the council since 2011 and the mayor since 2015.
McManus, a councilman since 2017, will have his vacated seat filled by a special election.
James H. Adams and Claudia Bridges won council seats against incumbents Peggy Leavitt and Rich Shuman. Bridges received the most votes with 2,513 and Adams received 2,246. Leavitt was third at 2,207.
In North Las Vegas, incumbent Richard Cherchio has defeated businessman Pete Shields to retain his Ward 4 seat on the North Las Vegas City Council.
Just under 10% of eligible voters in the ward cast a ballot, with 1,899 favoring Cherchio, who topped Shields by 635 votes.
Cherchio campaigned on diversifying the city's business community and upgrades to public safety.
The Brooklyn, N.Y., native moved to Nevada in 2001. He was first appointed to the city council in 2009 and served until 2011, when he lost reelection by a single vote. In 2015, Cherchio was elected again and has served since.
