Rep. Susie Lee calls Green New Deal ‘bargaining chip’ to work with

Wed, Mar 20, 2019 (8:42 p.m.)

U.S. Rep. Susie Lee says she thinks the sweeping "Green New Deal" embraced by many 2020 Democratic presidential candidates is a framework and "first bargaining chip to work with" to tackle climate change but there's many parts of it that she does not necessarily agree with.

The Nevada Democrat said at her first town hall meeting at a southeast Las Vegas high school Wednesday night that she's also not jumping in to back a "Medicare for all" proposal. Lee says she'd instead like to see the U.S. take a more incremental step such as allowing older people not currently eligible for Medicare to buy in to the program.

Lee was elected in November to a swing congressional district that covers southern parts of Las Vegas, Henderson and extends to the state's southern border with Arizona and California.
