Wed, May 15, 2019 (6 p.m.)

A military vehicle rollover killed one Army reservist and injured four Nevada National Guard members during a training exercise in Louisiana early today, according to military officials.

The injuries to the guardsmen from the 72nd Military Police Company, who are based in Las Vegas, were not considered life-threatening, officials said.

Two remained in the hospital as of this evening, officials said.

It wasn’t clear which company the fatal victim belonged to.

The crash occurred overnight at the Joint Readiness Training Center in Fort Polk, La., officials said. It remained under investigation.

“Safety is paramount in all that we do,” said Brig. Gen. William Burks, Nevada National Guard adjutant general, in a news release. “We train as we fight and, unfortunately, accidents occur during realistic training in dynamic environments.

"Our sympathies go out to the family of the individual that was killed. We are closely monitoring this situation and hope for a speedy recovery to those who were injured,” he concluded.
