Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. Eduardo Hernandez takes question about an abducted woman during a news conference in Los Angeles, Friday, Nov. 8, 2019. Capt. Hernandez says 54-year-old Stanley Alfred Lawton and 22-year-old Shaniya Nicole Poche-Lawton left the victim near a military base north of Los Angeles.

At gunpoint, a man and his daughter abducted a woman in North Las Vegas and took her to California. For about a week, they locked her in a room where she was raped. But for unknown reasons, they freed her near a military base, where she was "left for dead," according to authorities.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on Friday made the shocking revelations when they announced the rescue of the victim and the arrests of the suspects.

Military police patrolling Edwards Air Force Base Wednesday stumbled upon the victim, who was found in the desert off a highway. She was disoriented and had no food or water as she tried to survive in chilly temperatures, Sheriff's Capt. Eduardo Hernandez said.

The victim, who was only described as being in her 40s, was hospitalized, he added.

Hours later, Stanley Alfred Lawton, 54, was in handcuffs. Shaniya Nicole Poche-Lawton, 22, was taken in early Thursday, Hernandez said.

Clark County child custody records identify Lawton as a North Las Vegas resident in 2015. It wasn't clear where he currently resides.

The suspects, who were booked on felony counts, were arrested at the Palmdale house where the victim was allegedly held. The house is about 35 driving miles from the base.

Investigators believe the suspects knew the victim, but a possible motive for the kidnapping had not been disclosed.

North Las Vegas Police — who was investigating the case in conjunction with the FBI and the Sheriff's Department — could not be immediately reached for comment.

Bail for both father and daughter was set at $1 million, jail records show.
