A speeding, suspected DUI motorist slammed his vehicle into the back of a car so hard that it caught fire and killed its two occupants about 3 a.m. this morning in east Las Vegas, according to Metro Police.

Aaron Kruse, 24, who was rushing down Boulder Highway near Flamingo Road in a white Ford Mustang two-door coupe when the crash occurred, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on two counts each of DUI and reckless driving, jail logs show.

The two victims inside a 2006 Toyota Corolla could not be pulled from the burning vehicle and died at the scene, police said. Investigators could not determine the color of the car.

An investigation determined that the victims were heading south on Boulder Highway when Kruse, who was traveling at a high rate of speed clobbered the car from behind, police said.

The impact caused the cars to spin, pushing the victims' vehicle into a convenience store parking lot where it burned, police said. Kruse, whose car ended up in the road median, was treated for minor injuries before he was handcuffed and processed at the detention center.

Additional details were not immediately available.
