LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

President is not untouchable

Sun, Nov 10, 2019 (2 a.m.)

We are a nation of laws and we must all abide by them, including our president. Based on what is known thus far, Donald Trump should be removed from office for abuse of power. He is also guilty of obstruction of justice, even though a sitting president cannot be indicted while in office. Special counsel Robert Mueller said he could not exonerate the president. I urge people to read his report.

By presenting evidence before the American people, Congress should make it clear that Trump is unfit for office. He has been shaking down foreign governments so he can get dirt on a political opponent. That is unconstitutional. If we involve foreign governments in our elections, we could become beholden to them, and that could be very dangerous.

Every member of Congress needs to step up and do the right thing. If that means that they lose support from voters, so be it. They can tell their kids and grandkids that they did the right thing and protected the Constitution and what it stands for.

If Trump is not removed, we will be heading toward a dictatorship in this country. We cannot have a president who feels he can get away with anything.

Suggested reading would be George Orwell's books "Animal Farm" and "1984." If those classic books don't scare you, then I don't know what will.
