Swenson Street will be officially renamed University Center Drive on Tuesday as part of UNLV's homecoming week celebrations.
The street sign unveiling will take place at 11 a.m. on the university's intramural field at the corner of Harmon Avenue and Swenson, with remarks by UNLV President Marta Meana and Clark County commissioners.
"The new University Center Drive will more directly align UNLV and the community, and it's expected to create a stronger tie to UNLV for the more than 40 million visitors who travel to Las Vegas annually," a statement released by UNLV said.
The concept was proposed by alumni and business students and was approved by the Paradise Town Board and Clark County Planning Commission in 2018. Signage from McCarran International Airport to Desert Inn Road is expected to be updated by the end of the year.
