Letter to the editor:

The presidency needs standards

Tue, Nov 12, 2019 (2 a.m.)

Americans wholeheartedly agree that the presidency is the most important job in our country. Along with domestic responsibilities, that person must stand equal to other world leaders.

To choose that special person, what is our vetting process? I suggest following these requirements, which are admittedly stringent, but the presidency demands the best.

• Previous government experience is necessary. A person who can fly a kite does not qualify as a Thunderbird or Blue Angel pilot.

• Community service of sorts indicates interest in the well-being of others.

• The candidate must pass an IQ test at the genius level. A president must be able to quickly read daily briefs and comprehend content. Ad-libbing at a press conference is not acceptable.

• The candidate must pass a psychological evaluation for emotional stability. Emotions and logic are natural enemies.

• The candidate must pass a physical examination, including a blood test.

• The candidate must show tax returns for conflicts of interest.

• No criminal record.

• And most importantly — avid golfers need not apply.
