The Palo Verde High football team stopped a 2-point conversion attempt in overtime against Shadow Ridge for a 36-35 victory.

“Our kids rallied up and stuffed them at the line of scrimmage,” Palo Verde coach Joe Aznarez said. “They were going for the win on their homecoming.”

Paul Myro passed for four touchdowns for the Panthers, including a scoring strike to Amir McGruder to open the overtime scoring.

Kade Madsen had two scoring receptions, including one from 76 yards out. Dacen Phister had a touchdown run and catch, helping the Panthers improve to 2-0 in the Northwest League.

“We know how tough our league is,” Aznarez said. “Every year (making the playoffs) comes down to beating certain teams. Shadow is one of those teams.”

Shadow Ridge rushed for more than 400 yards, including 217 from Marrion Macklin-Thomas and 108 from Aiden Valenzuela.
