Henderson Police shot a knife-wielding man this morning in a neighborhood near U.S. 95 and the 215 Beltway.

Police said the man refused to drop a butcher knife and approached officers while holding the weapon. The man was hospitalized and expected to survive, police said.

Police were summoned about 4:40 a.m. to the 400 block of Box Elder Court to find a man outside a house holding the knife to his throat, police said.

Arriving officers tried talking to him, but he began moving toward them and ignored orders to stop, police said.

An officer deployed a stun gun, which momentarily stopped the man, police said.

But “the male reacquired the knife resulting in an officer-involved shooting,” police said in a news release.

The officers who opened fire were placed on routine paid leave.
