Two people were killed and another suffered serious injuries following a head-on crash Saturday morning on a southwest valley road, according to Metro Police.
The crash was reported at 11:11 a.m. on Fort Apache Road and Tompkins Avenue, south of Tropicana Avenue, Lt. Ken Nogle said.
A 78-year-old man in a 2018 Dodge Challenger was heading north on Fort Apache when he veered onto wrong-way traffic, striking a 2017 Hyundai Elantra head-on, police said.
The driver and the passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene, while the elderly motorist was taken to University Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition, police said.
Traffic was shut down in the area for several hours. The crash remained under investigation, police said.
