In Amanda Ballantyne’s Feb. 20 guest column “ What a millionaires tax could do for Nevada,” she proposed increasing federal income tax on millionaires and then distributing more federal money to Nevada. Her desire is to use the money to improve education, transport and local health care.
A major problem with that approach is that once the money is in Washington, D.C., there is no control over any of it being sent to Nevada.
All of the problems she wants to solve are state and local issues, not federal issues. She should propose a state income tax on millionaires and a higher tax on gaming rather than relying on uncertain out-of-state funding.
