A judge set bail at $50,000 and ordered house arrest for a 47-year-old Metro Police officer accused of engaging in sex acts with girls he encountered at the junior-and-senior high school in the Colorado River resort town of Laughlin.

Christopher Peto’s attorney, Josh Tomsheck, said Friday his client should be able to post bail for his release pending a March 31 preliminary hearing of evidence on charges including kidnapping a minor, lewdness and soliciting a child for prostitution.

Tomsheck said a not-guilty plea was entered on Peto’s behalf following his arrest Jan. 31 and suspension with pay from the police job he has had since 1999. He is expected to live with his parents in Laughlin.

The case was moved to Las Vegas from Laughlin after a prosecutor and Peto’s defense attorney said Peto and the Laughlin justice of the peace are friends and golf together.

Metro Police covers Laughlin, about 100 miles south of Las Vegas.
