Letter to the editor:

Don’t build a second monorail

Wed, Jan 22, 2020 (2 a.m.)

Light rail could be a boon to a community but only if it’s done right.

I’m from Arizona and I watched the light rail being built. It runs through the main business districts and by most of the major sports and entertainment venues. When I go down there, I use it regularly to attend events. It’s cheaper and easier than parking.

The problem with the proposal here is that it would not serve the community. Up and down Maryland Parkway? That’s as useless as the monorail. Who seriously thought that people would ride the monorail from the Sahara to the MGM? It should have at least gone from the airport, through the resort corridor to downtown.

Light rail will work but only if it easily and cheaply transports people to sports, entertainment and major business areas.
