LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Fireworks fun not worth risks

Thu, Jul 2, 2020 (2 a.m.)

I ask the same question every year and have yet to get an acceptable answer: Why are fireworks sales permitted in Henderson and surrounding areas? There are no “safe and sane” fireworks.

They are all dangerous and should not be in the hands of amateurs. In addition, many people combine so-called “legal” fireworks with illegal varieties. The results are full of personal injuries, building fires and many other damages.

This year, amid the pandemic, anything that is challenging, dangerous or unsafe should be banned.

I was told that churches and other charities benefit from these sales. Sorry, that cannot justify the consequences. Surely, there is something else these groups can sell that wouldn’t be so dangerous. Hopefully, our lawmakers will reconsider before it is too late.

Our beautiful city has more pending dangers than ever, with alcohol and pot easily available, the proliferation of fireworks and a large group of unruly sports fans moving in.
