In response to the June 28 letter “We must be safe but also be free”:
We are in a horrific time and our country needs all hands on deck. We can’t have it both ways; it’s not working.
To be safe, we have to give up something — oh, how terrible to wear a mask or face covering. How dare we mandate that, even to protect lives?
The writer should go around pleading with individuals to go maskless. But wait: Let me get into the mortuary business first.
Why do individuals feel that by being safe, mandated or otherwise, that it is a loss of freedom? We know how to ensure loss of a freedom and life — just listen to people like this letter writer.
The virus is spiking all over the country due to a relaxation of public safety policies. Not wearing a mask will ensure the closure of more businesses, which will lead to more unemployment and, more importantly, more deaths. Wake up, America, and stop being so arrogant.
