Coveted point guard prospect Zaon Collins announced his final four college choices on Monday, and UNLV is firmly in the mix.

In addition to the Rebels, Collins listed Arizona, Arizona State and USC as the other top options:

UNLV’s inclusion was expected. The Runnin’ Rebels have made Collins their top recruiting priority since the day T.J. Otzelberger was hired, and the Bishop Gorman product has spoken highly of UNLV during the process.

Collins could have program-changing potential for UNLV. A consensus 4-star prospect, he is rated as the No. 40 player in the Class of 2021 in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

As a junior last year, Collins averaged 14 points, eight assists and three steals per game while leading Bishop Gorman to a state championship. His ability to thrive in a wide-open attack while locking down opposing ball-handlers would seem to make him a perfect style fit for Otzelberger and the Rebels.

Collins is also intriguing because of his friendship with fellow 4-star prospect Arthur Kaluma. Kaluma, a 6-foot-8 forward from Texas, is ranked No. 36 in the nation, and he was set to join forces with Collins on the Vegas Elite AAU team this summer before the COVID-19 pandemic spoiled those plans.

There has been some speculation that Collins and Kaluma might want to team up in college, and a cross-reference of Collins’ final four schools and Kaluma’s final eight reveals three shared options: UNLV, Arizona State and USC.

Neither Collins nor Kaluma have announced a timeline for their final decisions.
