A motorcyclist riding near downtown Las Vegas Thursday morning was fatally injured when he ran a red light and smashed into a car, according to Metro Police.

A 1994 Buick Roadmaster was headed southbound on North Bruce Street about 10:10 a.m. when it entered the Fremont Street intersection on a green light, police said.

About that time, a Suzuki GSX-R, which was heading west, entered the intersection on a "solid red light," crashing into the car on its left side, police said.

The motorcyclist, which police had only identified as being male, died at University Medical Center, where the elderly motorist also was taken with minor injuries, police said.

The crash victim will be identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

He was the 47th person killed on Metro-patrolled roads this year.
