LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Time to fix the fireworks issue

Tue, Jul 14, 2020 (2 a.m.)

So let’s see, aerial fireworks and other items are illegal under Clark County regulations.

Every year, the county sets up an email reporting service that takes in thousands of complaints, yet it prints “this is not for enforcement“ but “strategic planning” for resources next year. What does that even mean?

Recent reports claim this was the busiest year that Southern Nevada firefighters ever had, and what’s their solution to curb fire and damage to home and property? “Take precautions by over-watering plants and lawns and buy a fire hose nozzle for your garden hose.”

How about people stop using illegal fireworks in the first place? How simple an idea is that? How about actual enforcement of the law, with hefty fines to discourage the use of these items? What a novel thought that we get serious about the issue and put some bite back into the bark. Every year this problem gets worse, and every year the counties and cities do almost nothing, which is why people continue to do what they do.

For many with health issues and for scared pets, July 4 and New Year’s Eve are the worst times of the year. How about getting serious and dealing with the issue?
