LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Military breaks promise to vets

Thu, Jul 16, 2020 (2 a.m.)

Current events provide you a vision of the future. If you retire from military service, any promises made by government can be voided by a whim.

There was a time when free lifetime medical for you and family was openly advertised. Then this was voided. We were promised lifetime access to commissary and exchanges. These have now been taken away without any valid basis. When they are restored again, we are told it will only be on weekends, which will overburden these facilities.

We are told this is to protect us, but this is a falsehood. Members and their families who reside on and off base can go anywhere and return, thus risking contact with the coronavirus.

Requiring the proper restrictions such as masks and distancing would provide more than adequate protections. Veterans and retirees have become third-rate rejects by today’s military commanders.
