LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Bombing refuge hurts Nevadans

Mon, Jul 20, 2020 (2 a.m.)

The Mojave Desert land mass is practically the last intact natural space in the continental United States. Despite its great fragility and unique environments, it is under attack by various modern developments, including solar energy fields, urban sprawl, climate change and now the Air Force.

As a Nevadan who frequently hikes in this beautiful area, it broke my heart to hear this news. Handing over more than 840,000 acres of the Desert National Refuge to the Air Force would be an unwise, absurd thing to do in the midst of the present circumstances regarding the conservation of the Mojave Desert.

We love our public lands and we will fight to keep them healthy and unharmed. Please do not bomb the bighorn, do not bomb the endangered desert tortoise. These sacred lands hold great value to Nevadans and all creatures who call this place home.
