Nearly 393,000 people in Nevada have been tested for the COVID-19 illness, state health officials said Monday, and more than 36,700 have tested positive.
One more death was reported since the weekend, bringing the total to at least 648 since the coronavirus pandemic began, according to state Department of Health and Human Services figures.
Caleb Cage, state pandemic response chief, told reporters the 948 new cases reported since Sunday came in below the seven-day daily average of 1,171 for the period ending last Friday.
Nearly 93% of the new cases statewide were in the Las Vegas area.
Cage said the state treasurer’s office has launched a short-term rental assistance program to pay grants to landlords on behalf of eligible renters facing eviction or experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19.
This program, run through the state housing office, is expected to augment state, Las Vegas, Reno and rural area housing programs. It is funded through the $2.2 trillion federal coronavirus relief measure.
Julia Peek, deputy administrator of the state community health office, said a call center in Henderson will begin next week to help the Southern Nevada Health District identify and notify people who have come in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.
