LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Respect our natural treasure

Tue, Jul 21, 2020 (2 a.m.)

I am sick of seeing the desert that I grew up in disrespectfully defaced in the name of economic progress, among other selfish reasons. The most selfish reason yet is that the Air Force wishes to bomb pristine land for military training.

It is so disappointing to witness how fast our government is willing to transform a wildlife refuge into a playground for trauma and violence. All of a sudden, a desert refuge for local wildlife is deemed a wasteland that is OK to disrespect and distort.

As a person who loves Nevada’s public lands and respects nature’s creations, I condemn this initiative. I ask for your support and to please refrain from bombing our desert. This land is worthy of conserving, as it is one of the most effective environments for the bighorn sheep, our state animal.

Respect and protect this land so the reputation of our government and the military is also protected.
