LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Now is not the time to bicker

Thu, Jul 23, 2020 (2 a.m.)

This is a critical time for Nevadans. The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting all of us in ways no one could have imagined. There has never been a time in recent history when it has been more important that we all work together to address the immediate challenges we face. We need leadership that is focused solely on addressing what is important today, and not wasting time on selfish bickering and finger pointing.

It is disappointing to see Gov. Steve Sisolak and state Superintendent Jhone Ebert waste precious time during an emergency legislative session to accuse Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus Jara of misrepresenting information regarding a proposal that he actually requested be pulled from consideration.

If Jara reached out and requested that a proposal to repurpose unspent money be removed from consideration and it moved forward against his request, even though the governor and the state superintendent agree that it was a bad idea, the real question is, why did they include it in the bill? Were they looking at this as an opportunity to attack Jara?

No matter what the motivation, this is the last kind of thing that anyone in leadership should be focused on right now. We need our leaders focused on the task at hand — putting all Nevadans ahead of needless bickering and finger pointing.

No shirt, no shows, no mask, no bickering, for Nevada.
