Charles Blow’s July 16 column, “This American horror story stars President Trump,” was right on the mark. He wrote, “It is Trump’s politicization of the virus that has resulted in a new surge of cases in this country when many other developed nations have been able to shrink the number of cases among their people. It is because of Trump that America has now reported almost 3.6 million cases and has tallied over 139,000 deaths.”
Trump has proven himself to be grossly inept. Right from the beginning, he downplayed the seriousness of COVID-19, calling it a Democratic Partyhoax.
He refused to listen to health care experts on how to deal with this.
Despite pleas from many quarters, including several governors, Trump refused to nationalize the medical equipment supply chain.
On Jan. 22, the owner of the country’s largest surgical face mask producer contacted officials at the Department of Health and Human Services, offering to manufacture 1.7 million N95 masks per week, but was ignored.
Trump has always treated scientific ways of handling this pandemic with contempt, and his administration has never had any plan to even remotely deal with it.
Trump has demonstrated that he is an embarrassing disgrace.
